Welcome, traveler, to the Valley of Ecstasy, the fourth major stop in Chapter 3 of Black Myth: Wukong. It’s a location that truly lives up to its name—a place of stark beauty, profound challenges, and, let’s be real, a whole lot of frozen trouble. Your journey here begins after navigating the treacherous shores of Bitter Lake. From the North Shore shrine, you’ll follow a grim path littered with frozen human remains, leading into a cavern. Pushing forward through the cavern’s exit and up a long set of steps, you’ll eventually find a small, contemplative plaza. Here, you’ll meet a Buddhist child accompanied by none other than Zhu Bajie. The child offers a cryptic piece of wisdom: “To see a Buddha, one must hold the Buddha in one’s heart.” Talk about setting the mood! This isn’t just philosophy; it’s your literal key to progression. To move forward, you must find and interact with four specific Buddha statues scattered around this area. Buckle up, it’s going to be a bit of a scavenger hunt with a side of combat.

Locating the Four Buddha Statues
Finding all four statues requires a keen eye and a readiness for a fight. Here’s the lowdown on where to look:
-
Statue #1: The Plaza Guardian 👉 Right behind the Buddha child, on the side of the plaza. This one’s a freebie, no hassle required. Just walk up and interact.
-
Statue #2: The Stairway Sentinel 👉 To the left of the child, head down a set of stairs. You’ll be greeted by two enemies standing guard near the statue. Defeat them first, then claim your interaction.
-
Statue #3: The Hidden Passage 👉 Behind the second statue, a passageway leads to another. However, an enemy blocks the path. You can choose to fight or simply sprint past them. Your call! Then, interact with the statue.
-
Statue #4: The Corridor’s End 👉 To your left from a certain point, you’ll find a tight corridor. Fight your way through the enemies inside. At the very end, the fourth and final Buddha statue awaits your touch.
After paying respects to all four, return to the Buddha child. A cutscene will play, opening the way forward. Head up the steps where the child was and follow the winding path. You’ll eventually exit through a crevice onto a breathtaking structure. Inside, keep going until you discover the Mindfulness Cliff shrine. This is your new checkpoint. Offer some incense, take a deep breath, and rest up because the real fun is about to begin.
The First Challenge: Non-White
After resting, ascend the steps from the shrine until you reach a platform. Get ready for a boss introduction! Non-White makes his entrance, a formidable foe wielding twinblades with blinding speed. His attacks are swift slicing motions, but hey, every cloud has a silver lining—his reach is pretty short. Still, don’t get cocky! Once you whittle his health down to around 50%, he’ll pull a classic move and retreat through the tight corridor he came from. Pro-tip: Don’t chase him immediately. That’s a rookie mistake.
Instead, turn right from where he emerged. Navigate past some stones and a tree, and jump to find a green wisp. From here, you can descend to some ledges and onto a giant pillar to cross a chasm. Grab another wisp on the pillar and continue. You’ll face a few Monk Supporters, get ambushed by a sneaky Cyan Bat, and deal with a final Monk Supporter guarded by a Golden Lotus. Your reward for this detour? A chest containing the Fiery Gourd. Nice! Continue on, startle a familiar monkey from Chapter 1, and find the Skandha of Thought. Jumping down lands you back in the arena where you first fought Non-White. Now it’s time to follow him. Go up the long set of steps, dealing with enemies along the way, until you reach a shrine filled with several foes. Clear them out, and don’t miss the small chest by the altar on the left statue—it holds Maitreya’s Orb Curios. Then, exit the cave to continue the pursuit.
Follow the path, picking up Will from a green wisp on the left, and you’ll catch up to Non-White for round two. Heads up: His attacks can now freeze you for a few seconds if they connect, and he’s got a wider arsenal. Defeating him here rewards you with the Non-White (Spirit) and unlocks a nearby Meditation Spot. Well done!
Into the Frozen Valley & The Frog-Like Menace
With Non-White dealt with, jump down a snowy slope for a thrilling slide that delivers you straight into the heart of the Valley of Ecstasy. Stay on the main path to pick up some Will in a small area. Returning to the path, you’ll soon encounter the next major boss: Lang-Li-Guhh-Lang, standing ominously by a frozen pond. This guy is similar to the frog-like bosses you’ve met before, but he’s got a chilling twist—he uses the frozen pond to enhance his attacks. Defeating him can yield Cold Iron Leaves, Silk, and Will.
After the battle, proceed through the path the boss was blocking. Grab the Aged Ginseng as you go. You’ll hit a fork: take the right path, then turn right again. This leads you to the Forest of Felicity shrine. Take a well-deserved rest here.
Side Quests & The Path to a Captain
Once rested, the exploration deepens. Go down the slope directly in front of the shrine. You’ll see a pond; look left and jump down to another pond to snag a Celestial Pear from a tree. Follow the stream to another pond guarded by a Crow Diviner. Defeat it to obtain the Crow Diviner (Spirit). Past a giant pillar, you can drop down to a new area, cross a fallen tree, and reach the Melon Field shrine. Mark this spot mentally for later.
Now, teleport back to the Forest of Felicity shrine. Look left to find a deceased human leaning against a structure. Interact, and… plot twist! It reveals itself to be a fox guai. Keep talking to learn its tragic story. You’ll be transformed into a fox and receive the Snow Fox Brush item. As a fox, follow the new path. Seeing a giant Buddhist enemy confirms you’re going the right way. Shortly after, you’ll find a shrine. Defeat the enemy nearby, offer incense to activate the Longevity Road shrine, and rest.
From here, follow the path to a frozen battlefield with warriors locked in eternal conflict. Enemies here are hostile to each other—use this to your advantage! Clear them out and continue toward a temple. A red-glowing entity by the entrance signals your final boss for this valley: Captain Kalpa-Wave.
The Final Boss: Captain Kalpa-Wave
This boss is a beast, using powerful stomping attacks with its legs. The good news? The attacks are well-telegraphed, giving you a fighting chance to dodge. The bad news? It can eject pools of blood in a medium range, so staying at a distance doesn’t make you safe. Stay sharp, learn its patterns, and emerge victorious to claim The Spirit of Captain Kalpa-Wave, with a chance for more Cold Iron Leaves and Will.
Important Note for Questers: 👉 Defeating Captain Kalpa-Wave isn’t just for bragging rights. His spirit is a required Captain Spirit to complete the Prisoner quest that started back in the Pagoda Realm. So if you’re on that questline, this fight is mandatory!
Beyond the temple entrance lies New Thunderclap Temple, the final location of Chapter 3. The Valley of Ecstasy, with its blend of spiritual puzzles, intense boss battles, and rich exploration, is a true test of any pilgrim’s skill and resolve. It’s a journey from mindfulness to mayhem and back again. Good luck, and may your focus be as sharp as Non-White’s blades!
