Alright, fellow travelers, let’s dive headfirst into the mesmerizing yet treacherous world of Black Myth: Wukong. Chapter 1, ‘Black Cloud, Red Fire,’ might seem like a gentle introduction, but oh boy, does it pack a punch! This initial chapter is where you, the Destined One, get to grips with the staff, master the dodge, and learn that in this realm, even a fluffy-looking wolf can ruin your day. It’s not just a linear path to the Black Bear Guai’s lair; it’s a playground of hidden bells, secret bosses, and lore that runs deeper than the rivers in the Forest of Wolves. So, grab your cudgel, and let’s break down everything you need to conquer this opening act.

Prologue: A Taste of Divine Power
The game doesn’t waste any time. You’re thrown right into the shoes of Sun Wukong in his prime, having an epic throwdown with the gods, specifically Erlang Shen. Think of this as a glorified, can’t-lose tutorial. You have no health bar here, so go wild! This is your chance to familiarize yourself with Wukong’s flashy moveset, like ‘A Pluck of Many’ and ‘Cloud Step’. These are the same core techniques your Destined One will use later, so pay attention! Don’t worry about beating Erlang just yet—consider this a preview. You’ll get a proper rematch much later in the journey (wink wink, Chapter 6).
Forest of Wolves: Your Humble Beginnings
After that divine spectacle, you pop out of a peach (classic) in the Forest of Wolves. Time to get your hands dirty.
-
First Steps: Smack the basic Wolf Guais in front of you and head up the steps. At the first fork, go left to find a chest guarded by a Wolf Scout. To the right, you’ll find a Wolf Stalwart. Defeating him unlocks your first Keeper’s Shrine: ‘Front Hills’. Phew, a checkpoint!
-
Bullguard – The First Real Test: Move forward from the shrine, cross a bridge, and you’ll meet Bullguard. This big guy is less of a boss and more of a tutorial on dodging and using your new Immobilize spell. He’s slow but hits hard. The key is to dodge his charges, freeze him with Immobilize, and wail on him. Easy peasy.

-
Secret Hunt #1 – Skandha of Form: Before or after Bullguard, explore the river area. Near a waterfall top, you’ll find a round boulder guarded by a macaque. Interact with it to get the Skandha of Form. This is the first of several Skandhas hidden throughout the game, and you’ll need them all for a juicy endgame reward. Our Skandha guide has the pinpoint details, but remember this spot!
-
The Arbor & Beyond: Past Bullguard’s gate, go left at the fork to find the first Meditation Spot, ‘The Arbor’. Rest up! A nearby cave leads to the next shrine, ‘Outside the Forest’.
The Cicada Transformation & Early Challenges
Interacting with the ‘Outside the Forest’ shrine turns you into a cicada. Neat! This lets you explore a large, secret-filled area.
-
Wandering Wight – The Skill Check: Right across a bridge from the shrine, you’ll see a big-headed Yaoguai muddling about. That’s Wandering Wight. This guy is no joke—he’s here to teach you the true meaning of ‘dodge or die.’ His shockwave attacks are brutal. You can fight him now for practice (highly recommended) or come back later. Defeating him frees his Spirit, one of the best in the game. You’ll get a message saying you can’t absorb it yet—don’t panic, you’ll unlock that ability soon.

-
Guangzhi – Speed Demon: Explore the area opposite Wandering Wight to find Guangzhi, a wolf with a fiery polearm. He’s fast, so stay aggressive, dodge his charges, and use Immobilize to stop him in his tracks. Beating him rewards you with the Red Tides Transformation, letting you turn into Guangzhi and deal massive damage. This is a game-changer for early fights—use it often!

-
Bell #1: In Guangzhi’s arena, ring the Bell on a small shrine. This is crucial for unlocking the chapter’s hidden area.
-
Path to the Temple: Head back to where Wandering Wight was and follow a tunnel with wooden platforms. This leads to the ‘Guanyin Temple’ Shrine. Save here!
Ancient Guanyin Temple & Hidden Dragon
-
Lingxuzi – The Fluffy King: Enter the temple complex, loot everything, and prepare for Lingxuzi to jump down from the rooftops. He’s the first Yaoguai King and looks intimidating, but your Red Tides transformation melts him. Just avoid his bite and two-swipe combo. After winning, search the temple for a Celestial Jade Lotus Pill.

-
Secret Boss Teaser – Red Loong: In this area, you might spot a giant waterfall marked by a Buddha statue. That’s the entrance to Red Loong, a hidden dragon boss. You can’t open it yet—you need a Loong Scale from Chapter 2. Once you get it, come back here for a seriously tough fight. He’s no pushover, so maybe tackle him later.

Bamboo Grove: Snakes, Shops, and Secrets
Exit the temple’s rear to reach the ‘Back Hills’ Shrine. From here:
-
Go left to find a cave with The Cavern Meditation Spot and Ma Tianba, a horse Guai. Talk to him! You need to find him in five chapters to unlock his transformation later.
-
Follow the main path, cross a bridge, and you’ll enter the Bamboo Grove. Grab the goodies from a gazebo chest first!
-
Near the ‘Snake Trail’ Shrine, defeat a Crow Diviner, then rest. Climb the stairs to meet Yuan Shoucheng, the sage who teaches you how to cultivate Spirits (yep, like Pokémon). After talking to him, return to the shrine and select ‘Retrieve Spirits’ to finally get the Wandering Wight Spirit if you defeated him earlier. Sweet!
-
Optional Frog Fight: Cross a bridge, find a wooden sloped platform, and jump right into the river below to find Baw-Li-Guhh-Lang, an optional frog boss. Watch out for his long tongue and other croaky minions.

-
Guangmou & Bell #2: Proceed to a bamboo clearing full of snakes. Head north through a torch-lit path to fight Guangmou, a ranged fighter who uses poison. Use Red Tides for some fun dialogue! After beating him, ring the Bell on the small stairs in his arena.

The Marsh and the Whiteclad Wall
Exit Guangmou’s arena to reach the ‘Marsh of the White Mist’ Shrine. Grab a Luojia Fragrant Vine nearby.
-
Follow the platforms down, help Shen Monkey (your first shopkeeper!) fend off a Snake Patroller. He’ll lead you to his cave shop where you can upgrade your Gourds and Drinks. Do it!
-
Continue onwards to a lake where Whiteclad Noble awaits. This guy… he’s a wall for many new players. His serpentine moves, hard hits, and nasty second form are no joke. Strategy time:
-
Use Pillar Stance charged heavy attacks for big damage.
-
The classic combo: Immobilize him, summon Wandering Wight Spirit to smash him, then transform into Red Tides for a damage burst.

-
-
Bell #3 & The Hidden Temple: After defeating Whiteclad Noble, go to the left side of the lake to find a path leading to the final Bell. Ring it, and you’ll be whisked away to the Ancient Guanyin Temple.
Elder Jinchi: The Tragic Hidden Boss
This eerie place houses Elder Jinchi, the chapter’s secret boss, deeply connected to Wandering Wight’s story. The fight is similar to Wandering Wight but with a twist: Jinchi will sometimes float and siphon life from nearby corpses. Attack those corpses immediately to stop his healing! For poetic justice, use the Wandering Wight Spirit against him. Defeating him grants the Fireproof Mantle Vessel, an absolute lifesaver for the final boss.

The Final Ascent: Black Wind Cave
You’re teleported back. Exit Whiteclad Noble’s arena through the cave he guarded.
-
Fork in the Road: Left path has a Celestial Taiyi Pill and the last Meditation Spot, ‘The Cliff’. Right path leads to the ‘Cave Interior’ Shrine.
-
Black Wind King: From the shrine, head forward to meet Black Wind King, the humanoid form of Black Bear Guai. He’s tough! His trick is turning into an invincible wind gust and charging. The dodge timing is tight—master it here, as the final boss uses it too. Beating him rewards Cloud Step, a fantastic spell for dodging and counterattacking.

-
The Long Climb: Past him is the ‘Outside the Cave’ Shrine. Now begins a grueling climb up the mountain. Wolf Archers will snipe you from afar—use Cloud Step to close gaps or evade. Keep pushing to the ‘Bodhi Peak’ Shrine, the final checkpoint.
The Final Confrontation: Black Bear Guai
Here he is, the big bad of Chapter 1, Black Bear Guai. The arena is on fire, literally.
-
Strategy: If you have the Fireproof Mantle Vessel from Elder Jinchi, ACTIVATE IT when he slams the ground and covers the arena in flames. It’s a game-changer.
-
He’ll turn into a fiery wind gust and charge. Dodge like your life depends on it (it does). Attack when he returns to bear form.
-
His paw swipes are powerful but telegraphed. Stay patient, dodge, and punish.
